Today she shares some beauty tips with us:
Name: Marla Malcolm Beck Hometown: Oakland, CA
First Job: When I was 13, I worked as a book keeper in my father’s office for the summer. My job was to reconcile the bank accounts. This was before computers so everything was done by hand in these huge ledger books that are 3 times the size of a computer screen.
Dream Job: I have it now!!
One beauty product every women should own: A glycolic peel product. If your skin feels dull or dry OR if your skin is breaking out, this is instant fix, instant glow. I have many favorites – M-61 Power Pro Peel, Trish McEvoy Beta Hydroxy Pads, Cane and Austin Retexturizing pads.
One beauty tip you learned from your mother: Keep your beauty appointments on a regular schedule. She was religious about getting her hair cut and colored every six weeks and a manicure every week. No one ever saw her roots and her nails were always perfect. I try to be like religious about timing (brow wax every two weeks, bikini every four, cut and highlights every 6, manicure/pedicure, etc.), BUT I have 3 kids and I feel like there are many more beauty steps now than she had!!
Recent beauty splurge: The greatest thing for me is I don’t need to splurge because our brand partners are always sending me amazing stuff. If I had to splurge it would be La Prairie’s new Skin Caviar Cristal, Revive’s new Fermitif Neck Renewal Cream SPF 15, and La Mer’s new Soft Cream. All heavenly, powerful beauty treatments.
I don’t leave home without: For travel for my skin, I travel with M-61 Power Pro Peel Glycolic Peel pads, M-61 Vitablast C, and Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer. The perfect solution for instant glowing skin. I also cannot live without a Trish McEvoy mascara. In my purse is always a NARS lipstick and lipgloss. Francois NARS is a genius with color. Right now I am wearing the lipstick Fire Down Below (my version of a red, really a deep reddish brown) and Sweet Revenge lipgloss.
Drugstore favorite: I must admit, I buy Pantene shampoo and conditioner for my daughters. They have this glorious long hair, but like to use about a ½ cup of shampoo and conditioner every night. They were using up all of my Fekkai Technician Shampoo, Bumble Color Minded Shampoo and Conditioner, and Moroccan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. They still prefer these, but I put them up high in my shower where they can’t reach. They know the good stuff already.
Beauty inspiration: Isabella Rosellini. She knows who she is and what she wants and has not had any work done. I want to try her strategy and not have work done.
How I relax: My husband and I love to jump on our bikes and ride from Bethesda to Georgetown along the historic Capital Crescent trail. If I am in the middle of working, I stop and grab a cup of tea – my absolute all time favorite is YogiPeach detox. I like to also take long walks. Every night at 11pm, my husband and I go for a stroll to catch up. Queen Elizabeth once said, “There’s no problem that can’t be solved with a good walk.”
Always in my fridge: Synergy Kombucha Tea in Cosmic Cranberry, Bilberry, and Guava flavors. I am a 100% vegetarian and 60% vegan so I need the probiotics and the Vitamin B12 in Kombucha.
Guilty pleasure: Chocolate and French Fries. Can’t resist.
Beauty product that should be invented: A lipstick that really does stay on all day. I look terrible when my lipstick wears off and I am not good at taking time to reapply. Some sort of scent for the shower that makes you feel like you went to the spa (think lavender scented steam shower – not sure how you would do it). Some sort of at home facial toning product that really works and makes you look like your skin and facial muscles went for a 3 mile run.
Beauty tip for our readers: Use a glycolic product at least 3x per week and use a Vitamin C product every night. Your skin will glow!
