Foods That Alkaline Your Body

Eating foods with high acidity is hard on your liver, put stress on your kidney and can lead to many other complications with your organs.  Foods that produce alkaline can help neutralize these effects.  You can correct the balance in your body with foods and you can do an alkaline cleanse that is three days and it will help “reset” your ph levels.  You can also go for a more extreme alkaline cleanse that can last 10 days.  Excess acid in your body can be caused by foods such as meat, dairy, alcohol, excessive exercise, medications, and low blood sugar.  There are strips that you can pee on that will measure your alkaline and acidic levels.

So how ph is measured is, a pH of 0 is totally acidic, while a pH of 14 is completely alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral. Those levels vary throughout your body. Your blood is slightly alkaline, with a pH between 7.35 and 7.45. Your stomach is very acidic, with a pH of 3.5 or below, so it can break down food.

Having a low acidic diet could help prevent kidney stones, keep bones and muscles strong, improve heart health and brain function, reduce low back pain, and lower risk for type 2 diabetes. Fans of the alkaline diet are Victoria Beckham, Kelly Ripa, Elle Macpherson, Kate Hudson just to name a few.

If you do a cleanse and have a high acidic diet (you eat a lot of dairy,or meat) you might feel pretty bad during the first three days and after that you will feel much better, with lots of energy. You can transition more gently onto the alkaline diet by continuing your diet but you will add more greens to your diet.  You will probably sleep better at night.

Foods for an Alkaline diet:

Greens: Kale, spinach, celery, cucumbers, avocados, broccoli, arugula, green peppers, asparagus and brussels sprouts, zucchini, watercress are the best greens to help you get your ph levels balanced.  If you do have a lean meat for dinner make sure you add two of these greens to that meal.

Herbs, Spices, Oils, and Fats: Garlic is highly alkaline, so if you have pasta make sure you add garlic and 2 green veggies. Coconut oil contains 90% of the fatty acids that are great for your brain and body.  Paprika is a great spice to add to foods that will help balance your ph.  Also nuts that are raw and unsalted. Parsley, ginger, curry and chili powder are also great spices. Chia seeds, hemp seeds, and  flax seeds are great to alkaline your body.

Fruits:  Raisins, dates, apricots, kiwi, black currants, bananas, cherries, lemons, limes, grapefruit, avocados, tomatoes, coconut, pomegranate, blueberries, and figs are some great fruits that have a high level of alkaline.   Stay away from fruits with high sugar levels because that makes them acidic like oranges.

Starches: Quinoa or brown rice, sweet potatoes are not only alkaline, but high in Vitamin A and fiber.

Proteins: Alkaline is primarily a plant-based lifestyle, adzuki beans, lentils, tofu and chickpeas.  If you must eat protein remember the 2-1 rule, two green veggies for one lean meat.  Choose a meat like wild salmon.

Non-dairy: Coconut milk or almond milk.  You can do soy milk as long as it’s a non-gmo soy.
