Foods That Will Naturally Detox and Cleanse Your Body

I love to cleanse and detox, I’ll try every fad diet.  To cleanse and detox your body you don’t need to do something extreme like drinking spicy lemonade for more than ten days.  Cleanses like that are lacking the nutrients and vitamins that you need.  You can actually do more damage to your body, you can slow down your metabolism that way.  Your body thinks it is starving itself and then stores fat in your body.  There are foods that you can eat that will detox and cleanse your body and you won’t starve yourself.  You will get the nutrients you need while purifying your body. Here are some foods that will help you reset your body and stay healthy.

Lemons stimulates the release of enzymes and helps convert toxins into a water-soluble form that can be easily excreted from the body. They contain high amounts of vitamin C, a vitamin needed by the body to make glutathione. Glutathione helps ensure that phase 2 liver detoxification keeps pace with phase 1, thereby reducing the likelihood of negative effects from environmental chemicals. Drinking lemon water, which is alkaline-forming, first thing in the morning will help to balance out the acidity of foods we’ve consumed. They also have an incredible effect in detoxing the liver. Fresh lemon juice contains more than 20 anti-cancer compounds and helps balance the body’s pH levels.

Wheatgrass restores alkalinity to the blood. Wheatgrass has alkaline minerals that help reduce over-acidity in the blood. It is also a powerful detoxifier and liver protector. It increases red blood-cell count and lowers blood pressure. It also cleanses the organs and gastrointestinal tract of debris. Wheatgrass stimulates the metabolism and the body’s enzyme systems by enriching the blood. It also aids in reducing blood pressure by dilating the blood pathways throughout the body.

Arugala contains chlorophyll that rids the body of harmful environmental toxins from toxic metals, herbicides, cleaning products and pesticides. It also aids the liver in detoxification. It also helps hydrate the body to supplement the water you drink each day.

Limit your kale intake to three times a week because it has a lot of vitamins and minerals that it can actually build up in your liver. Alfalfa sprouts is high in chlorophyll and help boost the digestive tract.  It aids in detox, increasing oxygen content, and purifying the blood, greens are the essential building blocks of any healthy diet.

Cabbage help cleanse your liver, cabbage will also aid in your digestive tract, which in turn helps you expel the toxins, getting them out of your system. It contains sulfur, which is essential when it comes to breaking down chemicals and removing them from your body. Cabbage is a source of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical that boosts DNA repair in cells and appears to block the growth of cancer cells.

Sunflower seeds are high in selenium and vitamin E which helps the liver detoxify.  Sunflower seeds also help prevent cholesterol build up.  Sunflower seeds will give you an added protein boost while also improving your fiber intake for the day. They’re also a source of healthy fats that can leave you feeling satiated for several hours even from a small serving. As with all nuts and seeds be sure to choose the raw variety.

Grapefruits lower cholesterol preventing kidney stones, and helps your digestive system. Grapefruits can prevent weight gain, treat diabetes, lower cholesterol, fight cancer, heal stomach ulcers, reduce gum disease and even keep stroke and metabolic syndrome at bay.  Pink and red colors of grapefruit are due to lycopene, a carotenoid phytonutrient.  Carotenoids, lycopene has the highest capacity to help fight oxygen free radicals, which are compounds that can damage cells. Grapefruit gets your liver fired up and ready for action, while infusing the rest of your organs with nutrient-laden fruit juice.

Broccoli has vitamins that will help neutralize and eliminate toxins. Broccoli specifically works with the enzymes in your liver to turn toxins into something your body can eliminate easily. If you’re stuck for ways on how to make broccoli taste better try dehydrating or consider eating it raw. But don’t microwave it (or any food) this destroys both the nutritional and detox potential. Broccoli contains a very powerful anti-cancer, anti-diabetic and anti-microbial called sulforaphane which helps prevent cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and allergies.

Lentils are high in fiber that aid in toxin elimination.  They also lower cholesterol and balances blood sugar.  cleanses the intestines and regulates blood sugar levels.

Cucumbers are about 95% water.  Cucumbers also help flush out toxins and alkaline the body.  Cucumbers support the body in a number of ways, all of which come in handy while trying to detox. It is the least processed tea and thus provides the most antioxidant polyphenols, notably a catechin called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which is believed to be responsible for most of the health benefits. Green tea is linked with significantly lower blood sugar.

Asparagus help with liver drainage, the liver is responsible for filtering out the toxic materials in the food and drinks we consume. Not only does asparagus help to detoxify the body, it can help you wage the anti-aging battle, protect you from getting cancer, help your heart to stay healthy, and is a general anti-inflammatory food.

Seaweed binds to radioactive waste in the body so it can be removed. Radioactive waste can find its way into the body through some medical tests or through food that has been grown where water or soil is contaminated. Seaweed also binds to heavy metals to help eliminate them from the body. It also contains minerals and trace minerals. Seaweed extracts can help you lose weight, mostly body fat.

Apples are full of wonderful nutrients. You get fibre, vitamins, minerals and many beneficial phytochemicals such as D-Glucarate, flavonoids and terpenoids.
