Kiana Cabell is the co-founder for Kopari which is a line of beauty products that have multi-use and are all coconut oil based. Kiana grew up in Hawaii, she’s a certified organic chef and is the face of the brand. Growing up in Hawaii she often created her own natural beauty products that have inspired some of the ideas of Kopari. After she found out how many chemicals and toxins were in beauty products she wanted to help create a line that was natural and effective for hair and skincare. That was also a luxury product not something that can be found in the market.
Today Kiana shares some beauty tips with us:
How did you come up with the idea of Kopari?
As a native to Hawaii, I would use coconut oil for just about everything; from cooking to all things beauty. I was passionate about maintaining a natural beauty routine. Later, my studies of integrative health and nutrition at New York’s Natural Gourmet Institute further exposed me to the vast versatility and health benefits of a diet rich in coconut oil, the familiar multitasking ingredient I grew up using as a kid. I became a certified organic chef, dedicated to exploring the different ways that coconut benefitted the body, both inside and out, and became fixated on the topical uses of the superfood.
It was then I realized I wanted to create a line of coconut oil based beauty products that lend itself to the ingredients multitasking benefits and enhance the efficacy by adding in complementary natural ingredients and cutting edge technology. Upon graduation, I moved to San Diego and teamed up with beauty entrepreneurs and industry veterans, Bryce and Gigi Goldman and the co-founder of Suja, James Brennan, to create a premium coconut oil based beauty brand, the first of its kind in the United States. We saw the right opportunity in the market for coconut oil. We were ready to share the multi-purpose benefits of coconut oil.
What does Kopari mean?
We came across the word Kopparai on our quest to find the perfect name for our brand. Kopparai dates back to an Indian word for coconut. We removed a few letters making it a little easier to pronounce, and Kopari Beauty was born.
Why coconut oil?
It is a miracle ingredient! I love that coconut oil is so versatile and multi-tasking and we have really innovated within the space to enhance the natural benefits of coconut. Due to its high concentration of medium-chain fatty acids and unique antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, this one ingredient beats out anything on the market in my book and it’s all natural. The fatty acids establish a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, trapping in moisture to keep skin hydrated, young, supple and smooth and also penetrate the hair shaft making hair healthy, strong, and glossy.
What is the difference between Kopari and the coconut oil you find in the market?
Similar to grapes sourced for wine, the region, atmosphere, and several other environmental factors play into the end result when it comes to coconuts. When it came time for product development, we tested hundreds of coconut oils in search for the best option, and found our oil in the Philippines. Kopari is based on 100% organic coconut, sustainably sourced from family run farms in the Philippine Islands; and we take the best of nature, a step further – combining it with cutting edge technology and innovative naturally derived ingredients to enhance the power of the coconut. The moment our coconut oil hits your skin; you can tell the difference. It’s smooth, not grainy, sinks into the skin, and gives off a subtle, sweet tropical aroma.
