Growing up in the art world I have always loved visiting museums. Whenever I visit a new city I always go and visit several museums. Even though I have been to San Diego countless times and I had never visited any museums until recently. I didn’t even know there were over 40+ museums in San Diego. I am happy that I finally explored several while I was there recently. Such as the Natural History Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, the Japanese Friendship Garden, USS Midway, the haunted Whaley House and I also took a Trolley ride.
If you need a little escape from LA or Orange County you should head down to San Diego. Hilton Hotels has partnered up with the San Diego Museum Council to give you a free pass to 40+ museums for the month until the end of February. It’s such a great deal and a fun way to explore the city.
I stayed at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront which is walking distance from the Gaslamp district. It’s in a really great location, you can walk everywhere from the hotel. The museums are also just a short drive away. This was my first time staying here and I really loved it not just for the location but I love the property. The buffet breakfast was amazing and I tried everything so my new year resolution of no carbs went straight out the door. I did go to the gym while I was there and it was really great. They had spin bikes, new machines and a view of the water. One of the best parts of my stay was the view from my room. The sunsets from my room over the water were beautiful that I watched them every night. I would definitely stay here again.
I have to go back to the museums to spend more time in them, you can spend a whole day in each one. They are all so different that there is really something for everyone. If you want to walk from museum to museum you can head over to Balboa Park where the Museum of Art is, Natural History Museum, the Japanese Friendship Garden and many more are located. If you want to have a quick and healthy lunch grab a table outside and try Panama 66.
Another fun place to go is the Whaley House located in Old Town San Diego. It’s haunted and you know I love all things haunted. Unfortuanately, I didn’t have my ghost hunting partner with me to explore but it was still fun learning the history of the house. I was hoping to see a ghost, not this time but I will definitely be back with Bridget to do some more investigating.
Another highlight was visiting the USS Midway. I have walked by here a dozen times and never went aboard. This is great for anyone who loves history. I love it because the guides are knowledgable and many are veterans. This is a must for everyone.
I can’t wait to go back down to San Diego and check out more museums, there are so many new resturants that I have to go try and it’s a nice getaway for a few days!
You can get your museum pass here.
