Hello Kitty Cafe

Afternoon tea is one of my favorite things to do but then when you add a Hello Kitty themed one it’s even better. I was really excited to try it because as a kid I loved Hello Kitty. The Hello Kitty Cafe is located at the Irvine Spectrum. When you walk in there is a small bakery in the front, the afternoon tea is held in The Bow Room which is located behind a cute pink door.

The Bow Room is decorated in pink and gold and the bar is adorable it is a brightly lit silhouette of Hello Kitty’s head and famous bow. The Bow Room is so pretty, it’s a dream. The detail in everything is really impressive. I love that everything has the Hello Kitty theme without it being just for kids. This is a great place to come without kids.

I highly recommend experiencing afternoon tea here. Everything is well thought out from the sugar that is shaped like Hello Kitty to the sandwiches and desserts that are also on theme. The cafe keeps to the traditional afternoon tea style menu with a mix of desserts and savory sandwiches. Everything we ate was really good. I was worried that it would lack in quality and just be cute, it didn’t. The food was really good and the presentation is beautiful.

Afternoon tea is served from 11am to 4pm and reservations are recommended. I will definitely be back to try other teas and the outside bakery. There were so many cute cookies and donuts that I wanted to try.

At 5pm The Bow Room turns into a craft cocktail bar. With cocktails that are all Hello Kitty themed. The cocktails are amazing. I tried Truth or Pear which has Japanese whisky, pear brandy and citrus, even if you don’t like whisky or brandy you will love this drink. It’s not too sweet and is full of flavor. It’s the perfect summer drink.

If you like a sweeter drink try the Festival Kitty which is a gin based drink with rose and vanilla and it’s served in a cute Hello Kitty cup that wears a flower crown. That cup is super instagrammable.

If you are looking for a non sweet drink then try the 1974 which is the year Hello Kitty was born. It is a basically an old fashion that is made with either whisky or negroni and it has a Hello Kitty ice cube. This was one of my favorite cocktails of the night. There were so many other cocktails I wanted to try that I have to go back for. The cocktail lounge stays open till 9pm during the week and 10:30 on the weekends.
