If you live in Southern California and want a mini vacation you need to head down to Temecula. I spent one night there recently and it was too short of a time. I will go back to spend more time in Temecula, it’s a great getaway that is only a short drive away. I did see a lot while I was there. Old Town Temecula has been around since the 1880’s and still has areas with wooden sidewalks. Which keeps the charm of the area.
Temecula is known for it’s wine country but if wine isn’t your thing there are so many other things to do there. You can enjoy fabulous resturaurants, go to the spa, golf, walk and shop around old town and enjoy a brewery.
I started my day at Extraordinary Artisan Table. We had coffee and donuts created by Chef Leah. The donuts I tried were vegan, gluten, grain and sugar free. They were so pretty decorated with rose petals and a touch of gold that I almost didn’t want to eat it. I’m glad I did because it was so good, it didn’t give me the guilt like a regular donut gives me. I had a mini donut and it was the perfect size to start off my day! You also need to get a cup of coffee it was perfection, I am pretty picky when it comes to coffee and each cup was made to order. I will have to go back to try the rest of the menu because everything that I saw go by me looked incredible. EAT is located just steps away from Old Town Temecula.
We went on a walk in Old Town which is a must on your visit. We explored the shops and checked out all the eateries there. The stores are so fun to go in and out of. I loved going into Temecula Olive Oil Company. The oil is all made locally at their ranch in Temecula. You can do a tasting of the oils and vinegars they make. These are some of the best olive oils that I have tried. Some of them are pressed with chili, garlic, basil, blood orange and so much more. The hand blended vinegars that are also delicious. I don’t like vinegars and trying the ones at Temecula Olive Oil Company has completely changed my mind. I loved every one that I tried and even took some home to use.
You can also create your own blend like the jalapeño olive oil mixed with the honey vinegar which is amazing. In the tasting room the ladies were really knowledgeable and gave me several different recipes for different mixes of oils and vinegars. You can also try endless combinations to find ones that you love. While I was at the shop I also picked up some stuffed olives and spreads as well as a sandalwood soap. Don’t miss this shop while you are visiting.
One place you need to see is Temecula Creek Inn. Ff you love golfing it has a great course. The property is gorgeous. It is lush with greenery and would be a great place to stay because it has such a peacful feeling there. I had lunch at their resturant Cork|Fire Kitchen which has a beautiful view of the golf course. I will definitely go back there. They are famous for the crab grilled cheese and it did not disappoint.
For the beer lovers you should stop by Refuge Brewery, it’s a very short drive away from Old Town. You can do a flight of beers and try several different kinds or just grab your favorite one. They have a window in the tasting room so you can see how they produce the beer. They also have beers for purchase and I suggest the Blood Orange Beer it tastes so light and refreshing that even the non beer drinkers will love it.
I did a one night stay at Pechanga Casino and Resort. I want to stay there again because I didn’t get to take advantage of the pool, spa or resturants that they have there. I really only saw my room and did a quick tour of the pool and spa which are both so gorgeous. My room was a beautiful suite and I wish I had a longer stay to really enjoy it. The hotel has been remodeled and is beautiful you will feel like you have escaped the city. The beds and robes in the room are so comfy that if you just want to call room service and relax in your room like I would it would be the perfect place to do that.
Wine country in Temecula is gorgeous and this was my first time really exploring it. I love going wine tasting and it’s nice to go someplace that is close by. I started off at Doffo Winery. It’s a locally owned family run winery and the wines are beautiful. They won 2018 Winery of the year and when you taste the wines you will know why. If you love big reds and great wine Doffo will be your new favorite.
I highly suggest you stop by the winery because listening to how the family started it really inspiring. The property use to be their private residence and now is their tasting room and where they produce all their wine. They are a small batch winery so get them while you can. They have a fun little treat for those who are wine club members, they have a room in their old home that has been remodeled that you can rent and sleepover at. So if you have ever wanted to sleepover at a winery you can now. Another fun fact about Doffo is that they play classical music to their vines all day long. If you are walking around the vineyard you will feel so relaxed. Doffo is also expanding and will have a second tasting room that should be done in October. I got a peak of it and it’s really gorgeous. Their main tasting room is called Moto Doffo and if you love motorcycles you need to go check it out. Thank me later!
The second winery I visited was Bottaia Winery which is fairly new to Temecula Wine Country. It’s a year old and has a beautiful tasting room. I need to do a tour next time I visit. They have an unusual and cool amenity that I have never seen at a winery before. They have a gorgeous pool that you can rent chairs at and swim all day for a small fee. They also have a full bar by the pool so if you want to switch it up from wine you can have your favorite cocktail by the pool. It is very fun and very lively by the pool. The view is also gorgeous because you see vineyards as far as the eye can see. I can’t wait to go back to Bottaia because it’s really beautiful and unlike any winery I have ever visited. I suggest you make a reservation but they do take walk ins.
For us Southern Californian’s Temecula is a short drive away and the perfect way to escape the busy city life. It also is a great destination vacation for those who love discovering new wines, charming towns and exploring new areas. I can’t wait to go back for a few days and try new restaurants, wineries and have a spa day!
