How to Take A Perfect Selfie

best way to take a good selfie

If you don’t know how to take a perfect selfie yet, here are a few tips and tricks that will help you out.  It has nothing to do with how much or how little makeup you are wearing.  Please skip on the selfie stick.  These selfie tricks are good for both men and women.

Find your best lighting.  If you are unsure face directly into or away from the sun (if your are indoors do it with light). During the middle of the day when the sun is high it can cast shadows  on your face making your face look older. It can highlight the bags under your eyes and give you that double chin look. Take photos during the golden hour which is either sunrise or sunset.  The lighting is soft and flattering. If you are indoors and can’t find the perfect lighting you can get a little help by getting a piece of white paper and hold it under your face to bounce the light and brighten up your face.

Pick a side.  Know which side of your face you like better and angle that side of your face towards the camera.

Camera Angle.  Keep your chin down and hold the camera up a bit higher than face level.  Holding up the camera up too high makes it look too unnatural.  If you don’t like that angle try holding it a little lower than your face and make sure you hold your chin away from your neck, so no double chin and shadows. Looking up into the camera is good too.

Facial expression. If you must do a duck face you can try another version by saying the word prune slowly so that it’s not just a straight up kissy face.

Take multiple pictures. If the first selfie you took looks bad, keep taking them until you find one you like.

Filters. Don’t rely too heavily on them and don’t over facetune them so you look like a doll with no lines.  We all know what app you are using and it doesn’t look good. Everyone has their favorite filters that are their go to’s learn yours.

Have fun. Whether you are doing a selfie alone or with friends. Have fun with your photo. Practice makes perfect.
