Today Holly shares some fitness tips with us:
What do you recommend to get people started on their fitness goals?
Just start! You don’t have to wait for next week, next month, or next year, start today! Do your research and find the kind of fitness that appeals to you. If you hate something and are forcing yourself to do it, then you are setting yourself up to fail. There are so many fun options out there, try a bunch, make sure that what you are doing feels challenging enough to create change, and just show up consistently week after week!
What inspired you to open Pink Iron?
The women of Los Angeles and really all around the world. Most women are intimidated by the gym environment. I wanted to create a place where women feel comfortable, can just be themselves, and get support from their peers but not get a “watered down” version of fitness. Pink Iron workouts are challenging but they are results-based and what we have found is that women love the feeling of accomplishment they get when they complete our workouts each day. They embrace the strength and power within them and love learning how to move properly and work on their goals every day.
What type of classes does Pink Iron offer?
The classes that we offer are very unique to Pink Iron and all implement our formula to getting our members results fast! Pink Iron is the high intensity interval group fitness concept that has been called “The Most Effective Workout in the World for Women!” Designed by women for women to burn calories for up to 36 hours after your workout with an after burn effect. Our energizing workout uses rowing, running, free weights, and body weight exercises in different combinations each day to effectively blast fat and tone lean muscle, with your body never hitting a plateau. The great thing about it is its for ALL ages and fitness levels! We meet you where you’re at and help you to progress from there!
What’s the biggest fitness mistake women make in the gym?
Going straight to the elliptical or treadmill and never venturing over to the weight room. So many women are scared that lifting weights will make them “bulky” or “bigger” and that couldn’t be further from the truth. With cardio only, sure you will lose some weight but it will never change the shape of your body. Lifting weights for women can completely reshape your body and give you the booty, legs, and core that you are striving for. Lifting weights also helps to increase your metabolic rate so not only will you be toning your muscles, you’ll be burning more fat throughout the day so you can see that muscle tone. It also makes women feel accomplished and strong so start lifting ladies!!
What’s the best tip you can give people who are trying to lose weight?
Set a realistic weight loss goal then lay out a weekly plan scheduling your workouts as unbreakable appointments. At Pink Iron, we offer a free fitness consultation so that we can help new members do this as well as give them a healthy nutrition plan that will help them reach those goals. I always like to have ladies set 1 or 2 performance goals as well. Maybe they want to be able to do a pull-up or run an 8 minute mile…whatever it is. We find that when we focus on performance as well as aesthetics, there is a bigger drive to succeed. When we focus a little more on performance, the other things fall into place a little more easily.
Best workouts for your arms?
My favorite upper body exercises for increasing strength and muscle tone are pull-ups (we have many versions of these), push-ups, and barbell push press!
Best move to get a nice booty?
At Pink Iron, we specialize in building booties! We do this by MANY different variations of the SQUAT! Squats are a compound movement meaning that it works multiple joints and fully engages multiple muscle groups. So squats do the job in working the quads, hamstrings, and glutes. We love to do back squats, front squats, and even Overhead Squats.
What’s on your playlist?
I love so many different types of music, from rap to country but when I am working out, I love anything high energy with a great beat. Usual suspects are Britney Spears, Diplo, Lil Wayne, David Guetta, anything that keeps me moving fast!
Always in your fridge?
Eggs, spinach, chicken, broccoli, berries, brown rice, grassfed beef, and sweet potatoes. Those are my daily staples!
Fitness tips for our readers:
You don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get results! Find a fitness program where you use functional movements like squats, push ups, sit-ups, running, and lifting. Move your body in the way it was built to move! If you move with intensity and get your heart rate up every day, you will feel amazing and see results fast. Also just get started, every one has to start somewhere and find a class based program or trainer who has patience and let’s you work at your own level and make sure they push you to do a little more each day. At Pink Iron, we tell you to just show up each day and we will do the rest.
