Weekend Recipe: The Benefits of Coffee with Coconut Oil

By now you have heard of Bulletproof coffee and while that is a trend now.  It may not be healthy for everyone.  It is a lot of calories and is supposed to be a meal replacement.  But the reality of drinking coffee with butter is that it can raise your cholesterol and deprive you of the nutrients you need. Coconut oil in your coffee or tea is better.  It’s better because you can still have your breakfast in the morning and it will increase your metabolism.  It is also like a cleanse so you will be cleaning out your gut when drinking this.  I have been drinking it every morning for a week and have lost 3lbs. Everyone is different and will get different results but I have noticed a difference in my waist line.

I would start off with one tablespoon of coconut oil in your coffee or tea and then the second week you can do two tablespoons. Don’t exceed 3 tablespoons in a day it won’t benefit you more if add more.

Reasons why coconut oil is good for you:

1. Coconut Oil Increases Your Energy
coconut oil is made up of MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides). MCTs are more rapidly absorbed by the body and are quickly metabolized as fuel and it’s not stored as fat.

2. Coconut Oil Speeds Up The Metabolism
When you eat MTCs (like in coconut oil) this results in accelerated metabolic conversion. In short it means it uses the fat as energy. So this can help in weight-loss.  It will also make you feel fuller all day so you won’t get those hunger pangs during the day.

3. Coconut Oil Boosts The Immune System
Almost 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil is Lauric Acid. Lauric acid is potent in antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. Lauric acid is good for treating viral infections including  the flu, colds, cold sores, and many more.  Lauric acid also lowers blood pressure.

There are two ways to make it.  One is to use a blender and the coconut oil turns frothy like a latte.  Or you can just add it in your coffee and stir.  If you do it the second way the oil will stay at the top of the cup.  Make sure before you take a sip you mix it up or blow on it every time or it will burn you.  I’m lazy and make mine the second way.

How to make it:

Ingredients: Coffee or tea and a teaspoon or two of coconut oil.

Optional ingredients: Stevia, honey, coconut sugar, vanilla, or brown sugar.  If you are doing this for weight loss purposes then I would skip the sugar and sweeteners all together.

If you use a blender carefully pour your coffee into your blender.  Then add coconut oil and any other ingredients you want. Place the lid on your blender then blend up your coffee.  Pour it in your cup and enjoy!

If you are not a coffee drinker you can also do this with tea.
