Vi Peel: First Peel

Vi Peel

I have been wanting to try a chemical peel for the longest time and never knew which type to try.  After doing some research, I tried the Vi Peel.  What a peel does is remove the top layers of our skin that have been damaged by the sun, effected by acne and acne scars or environmental pollutions. A chemical peel will help reveal a new skin layer and improve tone and texture of your skin.  The Vi Peel was created to treat hyperpigmentation, melasma, reverse sun damage, signs of aging, it improves skin tone and texture, and clears up acne and acne scars.  It will also stimulate collagen growth, elastin production and reduce the appearance of pore size leaving you with clear and younger looking skin. I know you are probably thinking this is too good to be true believe me I was too but I was beyond happy with the results. Another great thing about the Vi Peel is that it can be used on all skin types and tones.  It can also be done on the neck, under eye, chest and hands.

My entire life I have taken care of my skin, from using expensive creams from and early age to always wearing SPF.  Growing up in California it’s hard to not be outside and in the sun all the time so I do see some fine lines and wrinkles appearing more and more everyday.  When I go out on hikes I don’t normally wear hats or sunglasses like I should.  I went into my treatment with high hopes.  I have seen many of my friends skin who have gotten different types of peels before and I never think the results are that great.  They don’t seem long lasting to me.  They look great at first but then in the second week their skin starts to look the same.  It has been a little over a week from my peeling process and I can see how great my skin looks.

So if you have never gotten a peel then you can go on my peel journey with me.  I am doing a series of 3 peels every 4-6 weeks.  If you have a job that you sit out in the sun all day I would suggest you do your peels in the fall, winter and spring because your skin will be more sensitive to the sun.  The peel actually takes about 10 minutes to apply (it’s shown in the photo) and since I do use a lot of products with active ingredients it didn’t bother me when it was applied.  But it can tingle and make your skin feel warm with some people.  It doesn’t hurt at all, just a slight sensation.  After it’s applied you’re all done.  You could even get a peel during your lunch break.

The only thing you need to know is that you will start peeling after 24-36 hours.  I didn’t get a lot of peeling right away the next day I was fine to go out anywhere because I had zero peeling.  But the day after that I really started to peel around my mouth. The peeling moves outwards from mouth, to cheeks then forehead.  You get sent home with little wipes to apply, remember to wash your hands because the wipes have active ingredients that will stay on your hands.  I forgot to wash my hands and rubbed my eyelid and noticed that I got sever dryness on the lid but it was fine and didn’t really irritate me. When your skin is peeling it doesn’t hurt at all it just looks ugly so you will want to stay home during that time and everyone peels at different speeds so it is about 2-3 days.  I learned that I am a slow peeler and mine lasted around 5 days but that isn’t the average.  It is definitely worth it.  Even the day I started peeling I could see right away how fresh my skin looked.  I had an acne scar that was near my laugh line that has totally disappeared.  My laugh lines are barely visible and I have some sun freckles that are fading away.

Also, while you are peeling you can’t use your skincare that you would normally use.  Which was probably the hardest part for me because I have a routine that I am use to since I am constantly trying new products.  You should use the Vi skincare it is all aloe based and very gentle.  You can also use coconut oil to keep your skin hydrated.  I used Kopari Coconut Melt during my recovery which really helped. Other things you can not do during the days you are peeling are working out, hot showers or baths, or anything that will make your face hot and sweat like cooking over a hot stove.  The dead skin can trap moisture and cause irritation to your skin.  It is so tempting to pull the dry skin off of your face cuz sometimes it will hang, don’t do that it can cause discoloration and scarring.  You can trim it or wash your face with cool water and it will come off.

I now know why people are obsessed with doing chemical peels because your skin looks incredible afterwards.  Everyone has complimented me on how great my skin looks.  It feels and looks firmer, it was like a mini face lift.  I am super excited to do the second to see how my skin just continues to improve because I love the results of the first one.  I feel like when I get the third one my skin will be like a baby’s again.  I started using the Vi Aesthetics skincare line after my peeling and so far I have been loving them.  They are very hydrating and feel amazing on.  In my next post on peel 2 I will get more into their skincare after I have used it for a while.  Another great thing about the peel is that I am more aware of taking care of my skin. I tend to sleep with my makeup on a lot and I haven’t done it once since the peel.  I
