COCHON555 San Francisco

If you have missed some Cochon555 events don’t worry there are still more.  I had a great time eating and drinking at their event in San Francisco at Magnolia Brewing Company in Dogpatch.  Cochon555 is a  food event that tours around the US.  What makes this food event so unique is that they partner up with local restaurants in each city they stop at.  The events are focused on raising awareness for heritage breed pigs through an innovative nose-to-tail pig cooking competition.  Cochon visits 20 major cities in North America annually and stages over 60 events.  They have also donated over $500,000 to charities. Every event is a competition between chefs and they all have the chance to win in October in the Grand Cochon where the chef wins a four day wine experience in Rioja, Spain.

Cochon555 in San Francisco was part of the Global BBQ Edition, the chefs competing were Jordan Keao from ‘Aina Restaurant, Eric Nysete from Smokestack at Magnolia Brewery, Tommy Halvorson from Serpentine, Chandler Diehl from Piccino and Trevor Ogden from Park Tavern.  Cochon555 is wonderful not only do you get to try so many amazing dishes and drinks. Guests also learn about where the food is coming from, how it is locally sourced and the safety of food.  It’s an amazing event.

Jordan Keao 'aina

The winning Chef was Jordan Keao from ‘Aina Restaurant he had six items on his menu. That were Kalua Pork Belly Pozole , smoked headcheese, chicharrones, and pickled cabbage; Korean Style Blood Sausage with rice onigiri, pork furikake, and caramelized onion soubise; Binchotan-Grilled Char Siu Pork with charred garlic chive puree and puffed forbidden rice; Lau Lau with Paiai , lu’au leaves, and hopi blue polenta; and Chichi Dango , coconut and blood mochi, kinako lard crumble, and smoked haupia whip.

I not only tried a variety of dishes from ramen, beef tartar, to a variety of desserts. There is wine and cocktails to try.   They are also all local to the city.  There were cocktails that were amazing some of my favorites were the Smoked Old Fashioned, the tiki bar drink, and of course the wine from Silver Oak.  The experience is great at Cochon555, it is really fun and lively.  I also learned a lot while I was there, I tried things that were new and loved every moment of it.  If you love to eat and drink this is one event you have to attend.
