You know Yves Spinelli from his famed fine jewelry line Spinelli Kilcollin. His line started in 2010 with his Galaxy Rings that are interlocking, multi-band rings that can be worn in numerous ways. Spinelli Kilcollin is a Los Angeles based brand that has graced the pages of Vogue, Harpers Baazar, Vanity Fair and has really become the It Girl’s ring. The rings are slightly punk rock yet still elegant and feminine. The Galaxy Ring is a staple piece that everyone wants. The line has grown and now have beautiful earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Yves, was born in Honolulu and was introduced to fashion by his father at a very young age. He studied jewelry design and then moved to LA. He worked in retail and noticed he couldn’t find jewelry that was clean and minimal but still had an edge. He designed the Galaxy Rings which caught the eyes of his clients and his line was born. Now he is over in 50 luxury boutiques worldwide. We caught up with Yves to ask him about some things that inspire him.
Name: Yves Spinelli
Hometown: Honolulu, Hawaii
First Job: I started working in a used record store in Hawaii called Jelly’s. I was 14 years old and had so many records on hold that they allowed me to work so that I could pay for them!
Dream Job: Working for myself, traveling the world, creating beautiful things, meeting interesting people, working with amazing business partners…. Which is what I’m already doing!!
Star sign: Aquarius sun sign with Aquarius rising and an Aries moon.
What inspired your Galaxy Ring designs? I wanted a ring that could be worn comfortably across multiple fingers in different configurations, and I figured that the connected rings would allow for movement. I made the first one for myself, and never thought about selling it to anyone else. Within the first week of wearing it, I already had a few orders so I realized that I was on to something great.
Favorite city: Tokyo!! I’m lucky to travel there every several months. It’s my favorite place in the world.
You don’t Leave home without: My original Aquarius galaxy ring… I’ve been wearing it every day since 2008.
Song you are listening to on repeat: I have varied tastes in music. This week it was “Naima” by John Coltrane. Last week it was “Caring is Creepy” by the Shins.
What inspires you? People inspire me. The connections that we make with others in our lives and where they take us are mind-boggling.
Best advice you have received: If you want something, and can truly believe in it with all your heart, you can achieve it.
How I relax: Listening to music.
Guilty Pleasure: Collecting records. I have about 5,000 and my collection continues to grow with every trip I take.
Always in my fridge: Kombucha
