I love exploring the coast in California, as a child my parents always took me on road trips for the weekend and we would go up and down the state. One of our favorite places to visit was Monterey. I hadn’t been there for awhile and wanted to go take a little trip up there. The city is so cute and charming. We stayed at the Portola Hotel and Spa that is located in downtown Monterey, just walking distance to fisherman’s wharf. It’s in a really great location. It’s steps away from great restaurants and bars. Also, if you wanted to explore the cities in the central coast like Carmel and Pacific Grove it’s centrally located that you can easily explore.
The hotel has a newly remodeled lobby that is gorgeous. It is filled with trees that make it feel really fresh and airy but also very inviting to sit and relax in the lobby. Another touch that I love is when you check in they give you home made cookies that are warm, it’s the perfect way to make this hotel feel like home.
The beds are so comfortable that I slept way past the time that I normally do. I did get to enjoy brunch at The Club Room which is one of the restaurants on the property. The brunch has so many options and it also includes bottomless mimosa’s and it’s very affordable. I love the omelet bar, baked pastries and pancakes. The food was great and I would definitely go back. Next time I come visit I also want to try Jacks Monterey which is the restaurant next to the lobby.
The Portola also has a beautiful pool and I will lay by it next time when the weather is better and spend a day at their spa which I didn’t get to enjoy on this trip. Now I have more reasons to come and spend a weekend up in Monterey.
