Norweigan Joy

I just went on my first cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line and took an inaugural cruise from Vancouver to LA on the Norwegian Joy which is the sister ship to the Norwegian Bliss. The Joy was designed for the Chinese market and was recently revamped for the US market. I’ll tell you it’s beautiful and now I see why people are addicted to cruising. I never thought I would be a cruise lover until now, I’m now thinking of where I want to take another cruise!

The Norwegian Joy will set sail year-round from the west coast to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, and Panama Canal from Miami and Los Angeles. The ship has a lot of activities for both adults and children. There are two shows on board Footloose which is a musical with music from Grammy Award winning artist Kenny Loggins. The second show is Elements which is a mix of magic, circus and dance. Elements is whimsical and fun. I loved both shows they rival Broadway shows with their performances.

Some of the activities I tried are the Galaxy Pavilion, which is a gaming area that has traditional games like skee ball and brand new VR games that will blow your mind. There is an outdoor Laser Tag area that is really fun you can play during the day and in the evening. What I really loved was the Norwegian Joy Speedway on the deck. You can go-kart and have a view of the ocean, it’s the first and only cruise line to have this. It’s really cool.

Also on board is a casino, mini golf, the aqua park (I really wanted to go down the slides but if you are wearing a love bracelet like mine bring your screw driver because no jewelry is allowed for safety reasons), the kids aqua park, a beautiful fitness center, the newly remodeled Mandara Spa & Salon, kids can enjoy the splash academy, and if you have teens there is a lounge called the Entourage just for them.

What I found to be really special about the Norwegian Joy is that they created a luxury ship within the ship called The Haven. It has it’s own private entrance, luxury suites. a private pool just for Haven guests and more.

I did’t stay in one of these rooms but toured them and I highly recommend them. These rooms don’t make you feel like you are on a boat but more like you are in a five star hotel. The rooms are beautiful and the penthouse had it’s own wrap around deck that was stunning, a giant bath that had ocean views and Bvlgari amenities.

What I love is that you can have the cruise experience but if you want to escape the busyness of the ship and you can relax in a quite little oasis. The Haven offers private butler suites, concierge service and private sundeck. The Haven also has their own lounges and bars. This is the way I would go the next time I take another cruise.

What I really loved were the restaurants on the ship. The Joy boasts eight specialty restaurants, 15 bars and lounges, there are six more restaurants not including in room dining. Some of the highlights on Norwegian Joy are Food Republic which has sushi and some fusion dishes, Le Bistro which had amazing dover sole, Q’s had the best BBQ and dessert. I also loved the seafood buffet and the brunch at Cagney’s was amazing. I think that a lot of people think that cruises are only buffets but that’s not the case at all. Every restaurant that I went to the dishes were beautifully plated, well thought out and were comparable to any fine dining restaurant in any city.

For those after dinner drinks you can go to one of the lounges and listen to live music. If you are in the mood for some salsa you can head over to Sugarcane and dance the night away while drinking a mojito. If you just want to spend a quite romantic evening you can have a glass of wine at The Cellars. There really is something for any mood you might be in.

I was only on a three day cruise so there are a lot more things I need to try on the ship like the other restaurants and lounges, the hot tubs, the spa and the comedy club. I love that are so many activities on board that when I do take another cruise I will have new things to try and experience. A cruise is a great way to take a vacation because you don’t have to think about anything while you are on board, they really take care of everything. You can really relax and enjoy your time. It’s a stress free way to get away and really enjoy a trip.

What are you waiting for? It’s time to sail the seas!
