The Westgate San Diego

Want to Escape to Europe without leaving the US? The Westgate Hotel in San Diego is your European Vacation in the States. You will feel like you have stepped into Versailles and have a taste of that European charm. The hotel is very elegant and the hospitality will make you feel like you are at home. The hotel is also walking distance to the gas lamp district and you can also easily walk to Little Italy. You won’t want to leave, I know I didn’t.

The lobby is stunning. The rich blue sofas are beautiful and you’ll want to sit and lounge there for hours. If you are there on the weekend you can enjoy afternoon tea in the lobby and feel like Marie Antoinette. There is a harpist during afternoon tea that really sets the mood. Chandeliers adorn the hotel and are Baccarat crystal. The chandeliers are so elegant and you never see these really opulent ones in the States.

I love that the furniture in the hotel are mostly antiques from France and the concierge desk is an original from Versailles, there are only two in the world one at the Westgate and one in Versailles. It has a lot of history and is worth taking a moment to look at it because there is a lot of detail in the desk.

Whether you are staying in the hotel or just want to go and take a look at it. I highly suggest you dine at the Westgate Room. The dining room is stunning and the food is equally amazing. I enjoyed two meals there. I had breakfast and lunch at the Westgate room. For breakfast they have a small buffet or you can order a la carte. I recommend the beef machaca and the lemon ricotta pancakes. For lunch we had the mushroom soup and the seafood cobb which were so good. What I wanted to try were the mini donuts but that gives me something to look forward to when I go back.

If you just want to pop into the bar for a drink there is the Plaza Bar, they have a great happy hour that I want to try when I go back to stay. If you want to go in the evening they also have live music on the weekends. It’s a really great place to go it’s small and intimate. When I walked it was like a piano bar, it was really fun.

The rooms also have a European feel. Every detail of the room is thought out from the bedding to the gold faucets in the bathroom. I love how big the rooms are and how big the bathrooms are. What I love are the views from the rooms. Our room had views of the city all the way out to the Coronado Bridge. I feel like in San Diego hotels never have these city views but you can also see the water. The room is so cozy that I felt like I was at home and I didn’t want to leave.

If you are like me and love going to the spa you need to head over to Aquavie Spa and Wellness at the Westgate. It is so worth the visit, I wish there was a spa like this in LA. It is three stories tall, with workout rooms on every floor, a floor for your treatments, and on the roof is the pool. You can take classes at the spa or just sit in the sauna if that’s all you want to do. Even if you don’t usually lounge by the pool you should check it out because you can have lunch by it and enjoy the views. There are also workout areas on the roof such as a running track, cycle bikes, and some Hiit equipment.

Everyone knows that I love facials and had my first Hydrafacial at Aquavie. The spa feels modern and very zen. You can easily spend an entire day at it. My facial was one of the best facials I have ever had. I did the Platinum Hydrafacial. It starts out with a detoxification process with Lymphatic Drainage. They run a small glass tool on your face to get rid of puffiness and toxins that build up in your face from environmental exposure, lack of sleep and diet. If you have puffy dark circles under your eye this would really help or if you feel like your face is a puffy from one too many glasses of wine or that cheat meal you had then you need to try this.

It is followed with the Signature HydraFacial to deeply cleanse your skin by exfoliating it and deep cleaning your pores. There is also extractions if you need them. Acne prone skin can also do this facial. It is actually great for all skin types from sensitive to aging complexions. At the end there is a deep hydration process for your skin.

What they do is replenish hydration with a collagen Neck Mask that contains Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C &E. This treatment concludes with LED Light Therapy and Connective Tissue Growth Factor to reduce and fight the visible signs of aging. The Platinum Hydrafacial also includes a face, neck, shoulder, and hand massage.

I can’t wait to go back to the Westgate Hotel. I still didn’t get to try the afternoon tea or Sunday brunch and those are on my list. I saw the room where Sunday brunch is held and it’s a dream. I love the location of the hotel because one thing that I love to do when traveling is walk around a city to really see it and experience it. I got to do this when visiting the Westgate. It was so great that I could just leave my car at the hotel and walk all around the city to explore. The hotel is so lovely because I felt like I was on a true vacation and I could really relax and recharge.
